JAMMU, July 14:    Former minister and senior Congress leader  Raman Bhalla today visited flood-affected areas of  Preet Nagar, Digiana, Nanak Nagar, Ekta Vihar and Langar in Gandhi Nagar Constituency and took stock of prevailing situation arising out  of  heavy rains & floods and the problems being faced by the people there.
Commissioner  JMC  and other officials of the JMC also accompanied him during the visit.
Speaking on the occasion Mr Bhalla  said that  the timely de-silting  and clearing of  nallahs before the onset of  rainy season could have saved the people from the hardships they are facing now  in various localities of Gandhi Nagar constituency and other parts of the city due to flash floods. The failure of the Govt  on this count has multiplied this situation many folds due to inaction and timely steps in this regard. He said that  due to this reason the nallahs and drains got blocked  and rain water entered into the houses and shops causing great loss to the people.
Bhalla said the  people of Jammu are already facing problem of prolonged cut in power supply, shortage of drinking water and dilapidated condition of roads, lanes and drains.    He expressed  serious concern over the failure of the PDP-BJP Government to secure the adequate financial support for the flood affected people in the State, last year.  The State Govt especially the BJP and its leaders who always claim to be the champion  for the cause of Jammuites  stand exposed for their lies and the people would teach them a lesson.
PCC vice president said that during 12 years when Congress shared power, the three regions including Jammu and Ladakh got their due share in every sphere of activity including political empowerment. He said that BJP and PDP indulged in regional and religious exploitation for enhancing their poll prospects only and joined hands ignoring the aspirations of three regions.
He lashed out at Govt for discrimination  meted out to Jammu region in the recent exercise of regularizing of SPOs in Kashmir province and questioned BJP ministers and Legislators for their failure to safe guard the interest of people of Jammu region.
He cautioned the people against the divisive and communal forces and asked the Congress workers to educate the masses about the achievement, polices and programmes of Congress party, which would stage a comeback both at the Centre and the State.
