SRINAGAR, July 21: The Committee on Public Undertakings of the Legislative Assembly has asked the Jammu and Kashmir Cements Limited to gear up its field functionaries for further improvement of the Company and making it a profitable unit.
The Committee which met today under the chairmanship of MLA, Rajiv Jasrotia examined the CAG’s Audit Reports for the year 2009-10 and 2006-07 pertaining to the Industries and Commerce Department (Jammu and Kashmir Cement Limited) besides functioning of the Corporation.
Legislators, Naresh Kumar Gupta, Surinder Mohan Ambardar, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Mushtaq Ahmed Shah, Asgar Ali Karbalie, Ch. Mohammad Akram, Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, and Aabid Hussain Ansari were also present on the occasion and gave their suggestions for further improvement in JK Cement Limited.
The Committee observed that JKCL need to be strengthened so that it may produce more and more cement to cater to the needs of the people of the state.
Financial Commissioner, Industries and Commerce, Khursheed Ahmed Ganai apprised the Committee about the working of the Corporation through a power point presentation. He also briefed the committee about the working of Khrew and Samba Cement Factories.
The Committee held threadbare discussion on importing raw material including coal from outside the state and decided that in future perfect mechanism be put in place to avoid any loss to the JKCL.
Accountant General (Audit), Managing Directors, JKCL and JK Minerals, Directors, I&C, Kashmir and Jammu, Director, Geology and Mining and other senior officers of concerned departments besides officers of Assembly Secretariat were present on the occasion.
