JAMMU, July 23: The strike of All J&K PDD Employees Union/Daily Wagers Union to press the Government for regularization of pending daily wagers of the department today entered 26th day.
The PDD daily wagers and employees are sitting on continuous strike with effect from June 29 in the office of Chief Engineer, EM&RE, Canal Road, Jammu.
The protesting daily wagers alleged discrimination with the Jammu Province and particularly Jammu district in regularizing the daily wagers of the department. “Though Jammu is the largest district in Jammu Province yet only 321 daily wagers have been regularized in the district whereas only 60 have been regularized in Kathua district”, they regretted.
They further pointed out that on comparing with other districts of Jammu Province, it is observed that the daily wagers of Udhampur, Doda, Rajouri and Poonch districts have been regularized upto 2004 whereas the daily wagers of Jammu and Kathua districts have been regularized upto 1997 and 1995, respectively. They further said that while comparing with Kashmir Province, the daily wagers of Jammu Province have been regularized only upto 2005, adding this type of sheer injustice with the daily wagers of Jammu Province, who have been completed more than seven years of service in the department, is causing much resentment amongst the employees.
The protestors further alleged that the daily wagers are without salaries since last 18 to 26 months while the Need Based employees have not been paid.
