3 killed, 7 missing in cloudburst at Baltal base camp

SRINAGAR:
Three people, including two minors from Rajasthan, were killed and seven other persons, including four locals, are missing after a cloudburst hit the Baltal base camp area of Amarnath cave shrine in the central Kashmir district of Ganderbal.
An official spokesperson here today said ten persons were also injured, one of whom, Abdul Karim, who was working as a Ponywalla, was air lifted early this morning to S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Srinagar in a critical condition.
The cloudburst in the higher reaches of the area adjoining the Baltal Base Camp at 0030 hrs led to a huge down flow of debris which covered the entire area adjoining the main gate of the camp.
The spokesperson said three people including two minors were killed due to the cloudburst. The deceased were identified as Deepak Singh, a resident of Delhi, 13-year-old girl Pooja, daughter of Prakash, resident of Rajasthan and 12-year-old Vikram, son of Kailash, resident of Rajasthan.
He said about 50 tents and shops and the parking area outside the main gate of the Baltal Base Camp were badly affected. Nine other persons, meanwhile, who suffered minor injuries were admitted to the Baltal Base Hospital for medical attention and are now reported to be out of danger. All the injured persons expect one have since been discharged from the Base Hospital. (AGENCIES)
