JAMMU:
Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh today paid tributes to the martyrs of Kargil war, and said that the sacrifices made and the valour exhibited by the soldiers would be remembered forever.
Singh said that it was due to the supreme sacrifice of our soldiers that the nation was able to defend its territorial boundaries and give a befitting reply to the enemy.
“It is the duty of every Indian to celebrate the Vijay Divas and also recall the historic role of the Army and its jawans during the Kargil war. The jawans by the dint of their valour and sacrifices ensured the defeat of the enemy and it should be remembered forever by the nation,” he said.
He said that the younger generation must take a cue from it and effectively contribute their bit in nation building.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that it was not for the first time that our Army has made a mark in the battlefield but have many times defended the borders of the country by pushing back the enemy and ensuring their defeat.
He said that it is recorded in history that since 1947 our security forces have rendered yeomen’s services in thwarting the nefarious designs of the enemies of the country.
“It is pertinent to mention that the first Param Vir Chakra of the country was given to Major Som Nath Sharma who exhibited exemplary courage while fighting the tribal raiders at Srinagar in 1947 and eventually sacrificed his life defending the nation,” he said.
He said that the precedence set by the Army continues till date and they leave no stone unturned while defeating the enemy and ensuring safe and secure borders. (AGENCIES)
