LEH, July 25: In order to address various issues plaguing the Health Department in the district and hindering deliverance of quality health care to the public, a meeting was convened by Saugat Biswas, Deputy Commissioner, Leh.
The meeting was attended by Rakesh Badiyal, ADC, Tashi Chombel, SE PWD, Dr Yangchan Dolma, Medical Superintendent- SNM- Hospital, Dr P Wangchuk, Chief Medical Officer and Tsering Angchuk, Chief Planning Officer, DC Office along with Executive Engineers from Construction Division, PHE, PDD, Mechanical and AEE PDD.
Addressing the major issue of shortage of staff, the Deputy Commissioner instructed the CMO to put up proposal for creation of required number of manpower in case of drivers, plant operators, helpers and pharmacists and transfer of post in case of accountants. In case of safaiwalas, the Employment Department was instructed to immediately advertise posts for filling up these vacancies.
Many other decisions for strengthening the medical and hospital infrastructure in the district were taken in the meeting.  Among them were the permanent posting of an Assistant Surgeon from Paediatric Unit in PHC Khaltse, procurement of drugs from Jan Aushadhi Kendra on priority basis instead of waiting for the State tendering process, posting of staff at important tourist points ensuring safety of tourists and installation of adequate heating equipments in all ambulances etc.
On being informed about denial of promotion to the officials in the Medical Department due to technicalities in Govt SROs, the Deputy Commissioner instructed the ADC to sort out these issues on a priority basis along with operationalizing the re-organisation process of technical staff in the Medical Department. The Deputy Commissioner agreed to look into the issue of increase of honorarium of Amchis across the district and would also personally work towards tapping various pharmaceutical companies for co-operation in the field of CSR.
Various engineering issues were also brought up during the meeting.
