MENDHAR, July 25: About 22 houses were damaged in Gursai and Sandote due to flash floods, as heavy rains lashed the areas this evening.
According to the reports, since 7 pm this evening heavy rainfall started in these areas due to which Harni River and seasonal nullahs over flooded. Due to heavy rainfall, water suddenly rose up in the Harni River due to which villagers stranded on both sides of the river. In Sandote village of Balakote sector, water entered into many houses damaging two houses completely and 15 partially.
The heavy rains and flash floods also led to breakage of the bund of a seasonal nullah near village Gursai due to which more than 20 houses were damaged partially while soil erosion was also witnessed on large scale.
When contacted, ACR Poonch, Incharge SDM Mendhar, Shafiq Ahmed, said that they have formed teams to assess the damages caused by the heavy rains. He said in the morning these team will visit the affected areas and asses the loss of life and property.
