MUMBAI, Aug 18:
Twenty Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel were suspended for their alleged involvement in the smuggling of gold at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport here.
According to official sources here today, the suspension included one Assistant Commandant-level officer of the CISF and its commandant in-charge has been transferred to the Naxal-affected region in Chhattisgarh.Suspension was ordered after an inquiry instituted in the case following smuggling of 11-kg-gold, in which two officers were arrested red-handed by the Directorate of Revenue Intelliegence (DRI) and Air Intelligence Unit (AIU).
Eleven kg of gold was recovered in a joint raid conducted by DRI and AIU at the Mumbai airport on August 10 and 11.
Two CISF officers Uday Singh Meena and Murari Lal Meena were caught red handed while aiding smugglers. Their modus operandi was that smugglers would notify the flight details after which they would escort the consignment out of the airport through the special security exit. (UNI)
