SRINAGAR, July 27: Lashing out at Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed and ruling People’s Democratic Party, the National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah and working president Omar Abdullah today charged the PDP-BJP coalition Government with failure on all fronts.
They were addressing the party workers, senior leaders and legislators while launching State wide membership drive of the National Conference at the party Headquarters at Nawa-e-Subha Complex, here today.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Farooq Abdullah said National Conference was not among those parties which was found and financed by covert agencies as has been recently revealed about other parties but was an institution that has always struggled for social justice and for the political honour of the State and its people. “National Conference has always drawn its strength from its workers and from the people whom we strive to serve and represent. Our workers are our biggest resources and it is their commitment and dedication that forms the backbone of the party. We do not depend on slush funds unlike others and nor were we patronized by covert forces to fragment the representational character and voice of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
Farooq Abdullah further said that the membership drive has come at a time when the people of the State were feeling disappointed and fooled by the two parties in the ruling dispensation. Maintaining that NC has always been a party for all three regions of the State and for people of all religions, castes and languages, the party president said that this membership drive will reach the doors of people far and wide and the youth will be the special focus.
Omar Abdullah, in his address, said that NC would never allow anyone to divide J&K for their petty political interests and would continue to safeguard Article 370 and the special status of the State from the PDP-BJP nexus. “Nobody can dare divide this State till National Conference exists and we will fight all such covert designs with full might and conviction. National Conference has taken the route of struggle, sacrifice and ideology to become the custodian of the State’s interests and rights and we will continue on that path with greater commitment and dedication,” he stressed.
Lashing out at the PDP-BJP Government, Omar alleged that every single promise – political, economic or governance related – that was made by Mufti Sayeed before the elections has been broken. “Be it the promise of AFSPA revocation, dialogue with separatists, opening of additional trade routes, the rehabilitation of flood victims or of ensuring that BJP does not continue its nefarious mission against Article 370, Mufti Saheb has broken every single promise that he made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
