Continuous water-logging troubles residents of city outskirts

SRINAGAR, July 29: The continuous water-logging due to frequent rains have troubled the residents of various colonies of HMT area of city outskirts with Government apathy adding to their miseries.
The residents of Usmanabad Shalteng colony of HMT here said that the water-logging have made their lives hell and have halted their routine activities. “The water-logging in Lane 1, 2, and 3 is a routine occurrence now. One hour of rain and the water accumulates in our lanes,” the residents said.
They said that due to water logging they face extreme inconvenience in going out of their houses. “As you know that the valley is receiving frequent rains from over a month now and due to that there is flood-like situation in our lanes. Our children are unable to go to their schools and tuitions. Even we elders can’t go out,” said Ghulam Nabi, a resident of Usmanabad Colony.
Another resident, Abdul Rashid Dar, said that they situation is so worse now that no outsider is ready to buy their houses because of water-logging menace. “The government is silent. There is no effort by the concerned authorities to de-water our colonies. We have been completely forgotten as if beasts are living in our colonies,” he said.
There is similar situation at Sector One of Mustafabad in HMT area and locals have demanded immediate de-watering by the concerned authorities.
