Protest outside DC office against ACR, Police

KISHTWAR, July 29: Residents of Keshwan area today blocked National Highway in front of Deputy Commissioner’s Office in protest against high handedness of Assistant Commissioner Revenue and officials of Thakrai Police Post.
Reports said that Assistant Commissioner Revenue Khalid Hussain Malik along with PMGSY staff and contractor yesterday visited Keshwan where villagers were objecting to the change in alignment of PMGSY road for Shrawan without paying attention to their demand.
Instead of listening the grievance of the people, ACR allegedly thrashed some of the protesters particularly ladies. Even police personnel accompanying him resorted to lathicharge.
The angry villagers along with injuries ladies today reached District Headquarter and staged protest outside the office of Deputy Commissioner by blocking the National Highway. They were demanding immediate action against ACR and closure of work on PMGSY road.
The protest demonstration came to end when district administration got the work on road stopped with the assurance that there would be no change in the alignment of the road.
Later, a committee headed by ADC Kishtwar was constituted to enquire into the matter.
