UDHAMPUR, Aug 2: District Administration has initiated a mass contact programme for revival of UDAAN-Skill Devel-opment Flagship Programme in a mission mode by bringing maximum youth under the umbrella of skill upgradation and placement offered under the scheme by Government of India in collaboration with State Government. It was necessitated due to extremely poor response to the placement drive and lack of response from the local youth.
Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, reviewed the progress achieved under the scheme and reasons for extremely poor response of youth and absorption in companies in a meeting convened here today.
It was revealed that despite more than 8500 graduates registered with the Employment Exchange only a handful turned for previous placement drive. Lack of information dissemination, lack of confidence and skill gap viz-a-viz processional courses, communication skills and professional acumen; and selection of affluent students were also found to be reasons for poor performance.

Status unemployed youth and trend of qualifications was also discussed. Officers from departments of Rural Development, Employment, Industries, Education, Revenue, Higher Education and ITI presented their views for improvement in UDAAN placement drive.
Appreciating the efforts of Principal GDC for proactive measures taken to make UDAAN a success, the DDC informed that a wider plan has been carved out for revival of UDAAN and benefits to maximum youth.A resource pool of 60 officers and educators will hold pre-placement training of the desiring and deserving graduates for enhancing their communication skills and confidence of personality tests.
