Khonmoh shuts against electricity curtailment, elevated bills

Srinagar, Aug 3: A shutdown was observed in Khonmoh area of city outskirts today amidst protests against the Power Development Department over curtailment of electricity and elevated bills.
Scores of residents of Khonmoh hit streets and staged strong protests against the PDD. All the shops, commercial establishments, educational institutes and industries were shut in the area. The traffic was also off the roads.
The protesters said that the PDD is resorting to unnecessary curtailment and alleged they are being charged 712 rupees per month despite installation of meters.
The protesters were shouting anti-PDD and anti-Government slogans. They threatened indefinite strike and intensified protests if the PDD doesn’t stop curtailment and sending elevated bills.
