This has reference to the news item ‘Mufti approves first ever disaster management plan’ DE Aug 1.
In wake up recent natural disasters in the State in the form of flash floods, landslides, avalanches and cloudbursts, the existence of Disaster management had become more important now than even in the past.
In order to minimise loss in terms of men and material, it had become necessary that a body well equipped with necessary wherewithal is in shape, to cope with the emerging exigencies.
The erstwhile Governments had stressed for Disaster management body but not much was done in this regard.
The approval accorded to the first ever State Disaster Management Plan by the Chief Minister is more than welcome. It underlines the fact that the PDP-BJP led Government is serious about meeting the challenges posed by the nature.
We expect that there should be no fund constraint to this body.
