SRINAGAR/JAMMU,  Aug 4:  Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee today held strong protests in Srinagar and Jammu over the decision of the Speaker of  the Lok Sabha to suspend 25 MPs of the Congress Party from the House on Monday.
The senior leaders of the party along with Congress workers simultaneously held strong demonstration at Srinagar and Jammu outside party headquarters to register their protest over the suspension of  the 25 Congress Members of  Lok Sabha and termed the decision of the Speaker as most unfortunate and against the basic spirit of parliamentary democracy.
In Srinagar, PCC president GA Mir was leading the protest. A large number of Congress workers assembled at PCC office on Maulana Azad Road  and held strong protest. Several leaders also addressed large gathering.  Mir along with senior leaders of the party proceeded towards the Governor’s House to submit memorandum and register protest over the decision and to seek review and revocation of the decision, in the larger interest of democracy.
When they were moving ahead in the form of rally, they were prevented by the strong contingent of Police near Tourist Reception  Centre,  on Maulana Azad Road from proceeding further towards the Governor House.
The Police men arrested at least 66 Congress  leaders and activists including Ghulam Ahmed Mir, Ghulam Mohd Saroori-MLA, Taj Mohi-ud-Din, Peerzada Mohd Sayeed,  Haji Rashid Dar–MLA, Mohd Amin Bhat-MLA,   Farooq Andrabi,, Surinder Singh Channi, Hilal Ahmed Shah, Shameema Iqbal, Irfan Naqib, Abid Kashmiri, Sahil Farooq Imtyaz Khan, Haji Farooq Mir, Zahid Hussain Jan, Abdul Ghani Khan, Anayat Ullah Rather,  Ghulam Mohd  Mir, Gulam Mohd Ganai, Nissar Ahmad Khan, Mushtaq Ahmed Khandey, Aftab Ahmed Beg, Abdul Rehman Magrey,  Dr  Syed Ahmed and others.
Describing the decision of  Lok Sabha Speaker as undemocratic, unfortunate and against the basic contours of Indian Constituency, PCC chief hit out at BJP Government at the Centre for trying to gag the opposition by indulging in undemocratic means.
In Jammu, a large number of Congress leaders and workers led by formers Ministers Sham Lal Sharma, Raman Bhalla and Mula Ram assembled at Party headquarters Shahidi Chowk at around   10.30 am and held strong protest demonstration. They were shouting slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP led Govt at the Centre. They were opposing the suspension of 25 party MPs.
When they were moving towards Residency Road in the shape of a large rally, the policemen raised barricades and stalled their march on Residency Road. The workers showed some resistance but the police foiled their protest march towards Raghunath Mandir Chowk. Later, they dispersed peacefully.
Prominent among others who accompanied the protest march included  Kanta Bhan, Balwan Singh, Yogesh Sawhney, Vikram Malhotra, Shah Mohd Choudhary, Manmohan Singh, Rajnish Sharma, Indu Pawar, Namrata Sharma, Anil Chopra, Maheshwar Singh, Darshan Raina, MK Bhardwaj, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Ashwani Puri, Shamsher Singh, SS Shingari, Hari Singh Chib,  Udheybhan Singh Chib, Hira Lal Pandita, Pawan Raina,  Manjeet Singh Jatt,  Prabha Slathia, Neeraj Kundan and others.
