DODA, Aug 4: Nadeem Sharief Niaz, Publicity Secretary, J&K Congress Committee (JKCC) today demanded the Government to sanction a special package for the rain affected people of Bhaderwah Constituency.
He alleged that due to recent torrential rains, many people lost their houses while their crops and other property got damaged.
Niaz also expressed deep concern over the deplorable condition of District Doda roads particularly Batote-Thathri road, Pul Doda –Bhaderwah road, Thathri-Kilhotran road and Chiralla road.
He said that due to recent heavy rainfall most of the roads of the district have been extensively damaged due to landslides and passengers are facing hardships while plying on those roads. He regretted that R&B Department has shown no seriousness in timely restoration of these roads.
He said that Government has turned blind eye towards District Doda and has shown no interest in addressing issues of the people of the district. He alleged that department has become ineffective because of its pathetic attitude towards roads which remain closed even after minor rainfall.
He alleged that the Batote-Thathri National Highway, which is the lone road link for people residing in the district, is on the verge of collapse. “The road network, mostly in hilly areas, has suffered extensive damage and most roads are yet to be made functional”, he said adding people are facing immense difficulty in getting essential commodities since supplies have been disrupted.
Niaz said that due to poor condition of roads, overloading by vehicles and lax policing many accidents have happened in past few months but no concrete action has been taken to cope with it. He demanded that traffic police must take measures by checking overloaded vehicles and make sure that drivers are having all required documents including license which is essential for hilly areas.
