Srinagar, Aug 4: An apex body of Sikhs today expressed disappointment over non-fulfillment of promises made to them by Coalition Government partner, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) prior to the elections.
The chairman of All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) Jagmohan Singh Rana said that no progress is visible on the demands made by committee from time to time with the people at helm in the State these days.
He said that the members of Sikh community had great hopes from PDP but so far their demands have not been met. “Sikhs extended full political support to PDP by casting their votes for PDP candidates in the assembly elections. Stalwarts of PDP like Syed Altaf Bukhari, Haseeb Drabu, Javed Mustafa Mir, Yawar Dilawar Mir, Mushtaq Ahmad Shah, and Javed Hussain Beigh, and many others got full support of Sikh voters and won the elections,” Raina said.
Raina said that more than five months have passed since formation of Government in State, but the cabinet led Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has not considered so for the promises made to the Sikhs. He said that APSCC has shot a letter to Chief Minister and his Cabinet colleagues and set a time limit of 20 days for them to settle the issues confronting the Sikhs of state especially granting minority status to them.
“We have high hopes from Mufti Sahib’s Government but the community is not going to wait any further and we want a concrete and swift resolution from the Government about the issues confronting the community,” he added.
