Katra Aug 4: Orientation Programme for the new admitted students of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University was held today in the presence of the Vice Chancellor, Registrar, all Deans & Directors.
The program began with the address of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sudhir K. Jain who welcomed the freshersand highlighted the significance of studying in a residential University which provides sea of opportunities to students for learning & growth. Citing examples from the level of excellence & competence in IIT’s, Prof. Jain advised students to be focused& open to learning.
The Registrar, Ajay Khajuria advised students to withdraw from any kind of distraction. He said that SMVDU has bestinfrastructural facilities & faculty which compliments efforts of administration to deliver the best.
Prof.V.Verma,Dean,Faculty of Engineering highlighted the significance of Engineering disciplines & their relevance in the contemporary times. Prof. D. Mukhopadhyay, Dean, Faculty of Management spoke about the importance of dedication & devotion in student’s life.Prof. V. K. Bhat, Dean, Faculty of Sciences highlighted the importance of discipline in student life which bears tremendous results for future growth. Dr.Vandhana Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences spoke about the relevance of social sciences in the present era of scientific & technological advancement. Quoting Tagore & Gandhi Dr.Sharma said that what is required today is a combination of ‘gyan’ & ‘vigyan’ to overcome social evils which are plaguing mankind.
Dr.Yugal Khajuria, Dean of Students, explicitly detailed the students about Hostels, their rules & regulations. Dr. Sumeet Gupta, Director, School of Electronics & Communication & Associate Dean, Academic Affairs, gave details about the Academic Structure of the University.
