NEW DELHI, Aug 7: Calling for ameliorating the economic condition of J&K’s tribal communities, Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution & Tribal Affairs Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali today pitched for reservation of jobs for the State’s tribal youth in the country’s flourishing corporate sector.
Addressing galaxy of dignitaries viz Union Ministers, Governors, Speakers of various States, MPs and Legislators in a programme organised by Forum of SC & ST Legislators & Parliamentarians of India at New Delhi, Zulfkar, who has also been nominated as National Executive Council Member of the body said there is pressing need to ameliorate the economic condition of tribal communities and this forum of Legislators and Parliamentarians must focus on the issue by projecting the demand of reservation on private sector at the national level.
The Minister addressed the gathering in presence of Ram Vilas Paswan, Union Minister for Food & Public Distribution, Thavar Chand Gehlot, Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment, Jual Oram, Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Dripdi Mormu, Governor of Jharkhand, Dr Charanjeet Singh Atwal Speaker Legislative Assembly Punjab, S Hiphie Speaker Mizoram Assembly, Speaker Legislative Assembly Gujarat, Speaker Legislative Assembly Rajasthan, Faggan Singh Kulsaie, Chairman SC/ST Committee Lok Sabha, Dr PL Punia Chairman SC Commission, Vijay Sampla, Union Minister of State for Social Justice, Sohan Singh Thandwal, Minister for Jails, Punjab & Jetan Ram Manji, former Chief Minister of Bihar besides several Parliamentarian and legislators.
Zulfkar said Jammu & Kashmir is a border state having a very typical topography and the State is facing the difficult circumstances, for the past more than 20 years, which are not conducive for the overall development of the state in general and the SCs/STs in particular comprising 25% population of the State.
He said that due to the limited resources being provided for the development of SCs/STs in J&K, the SCs/STs of J&K are deprived of the basic facilities as being provided in many other States of the country. He added that the areas inhabited by the SCs/STs in J&K are still without basic facilities like roads, safe drinking water, electricity and health care etc.
Minister said that the Forest Rights Act has been implemented in whole of the country except J&K which needs to be implemented in the State of J&K.
He further suggested that there is a need for financial support from the national as well as international organizations for taking up various welfare measures for the benefit of these downtrodden sections of the societies.
Zulfkar said that to compete with the modern era of competition, special programmes for the skill development of SC/ST youths throughout the country needs to be formulated and funded so that these communities can get their livelihood in a respected way.
