Mir denies groupism in Cong, terms Vakil as opportunist

JAMMU, Aug 7: Describing former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil as an opportunist, Pradesh Congress Committee and some other party leaders have claimed that there is no groupism in Congress Party.
In a joint press statement here Mr Mir and other senior party leaders alleged that Mr Vakil and some expelled party activists amongst `deadwood’, were trying to issue mischievous and misleading statements. They said the party was united and there was no groupism as being projected by these elements.
Taking a dig at such elements, the Congress leaders said the need of the hour is to play a responsible role to unite, not divisive role to disunite. They also said that the present generation of State wants its basic issues of employment, development and opportunities addressed. The trouble makers have been expelled and they have no right to interfere in party related matters.
“The Congress party is working hard by raising the general demands of the people under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ambika Soni and Ghulam Ahmed Mir. We can’t afford to let our people down at this crucial juncture,” they added.
Lashing out on the expelled leader Gani Vakil, they said that Vakil has become MLC and Cabinet Minister only because of the Congress. Personally nobody knows him on ground and he even cannot win a Sarpanch election. Basically, he (Vakil) is an opportunist. The leaders further said that as the BJP & PDP Govt has totally been exposed and failed, they now are busy in spreading news of groupism in the Congress party. Both BJP and PDP leaders are aware of the fact that Congress has now got tremendous support from the people to expose the present Govt.
They said that the BJP and PDP played the card of communal polarization by using religion to fight elections. If the elections would have been fought on development basis Congress would have never lost. The performance of present Govt has been disappointing with financial crunch, discrimination with Jammu on AIIMS issue, terminating daily wagers, no compensation to flood victims and snail pace of development.
