Srinagar, Aug 7: The leaders and activists of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) today staged a protest demanding release of political prisoners.
Soon after Friday prayers, nearly two dozen separatist activists took out a rally from JKLF makeshift office at Abi Guzar neighbourhood of Lal Chowk here.
The separatist activists were holding banners and placards as well as JKLF flags and raised anti-government slogans. As the protesters reached Residency Road, a large contingent of police detained the JKLF leaders and activists and lodged them in Kothi Bagh police station.
The remaining separatist activists dispersed off peacefully and there was no law and order problem.
Meanwhile, the masked youth after Friday congregation, once again, raised the flags of Islamic State (IS), Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and Pakistan outside Jama Masjid in Nowhatta area of the city here. However, shortly after waving flags, the youths dispersed and the situation returned to normal. There was no incident of stone-pelting today in any part of the downtown city.
