MENDHAR, Aug 19: A young woman was allegedly beaten to death by husband and other members of in-laws’ family at a village in Mendhar tehsil and district Poonch today.
The 28-year-old deceased has been identified as Farzana Kouser, wife of Mujeeb Ullah, resident of Uchhad in Hari Nad area of Mendhar. On the eve of Eid festival, Farzana’s father, Mohd Azam resident of Bhatti Dhar, came to see his daughter at her home last evening. He saw nobody at home. Two minor children of Farzana were found in the compound wailing. They asked their Nana to save mother as she was beaten up by father and thrown in the backyard.
The frightened father moved to backyard and found his daughter lying unconscious in a nalli (dry water channel). He lifted her and placed on cot and offered water. But she could not stay for long and ultimately died. Niether husband Mujeeb nor his parents were in the home. The father then left for his home to tell the incident to other relatives.  As they returned, they found the in-laws family digging grave to bury the body in hush- hush manner. The matter was communicated to police and the cops sent the body for postmortem.
There were many torture marks on the body. The police also recorded statements of minor children and younger brother of the husband, Mohd Azam, who told that she was severely beaten up. A large number of people from Bhati Dhar thronged the in-laws house. A medical board performed postmortem and later body was taken to parents house for last rites. The police detained husband and his parents, Mohd Khan and Fazal Bi in this connection. It was said that Mujeeb Ullah works in Saudi Arabia and he had returned hardly 2 and half months back. The woman was pregnant and there was some clash in the house over a petty issue. The husband started beating his wife in a fit of anger with kicks, blows and lathis. The police has registered a case and started investigation.
