Infiltration bid foiled at Keran, 2 militants killed

Srinagar, Aug 9: Army today foiled an infiltration bid in Keran sector on the Line of Control (LoC) and killed two militants while a massive operation launched against a group of infiltrators is on since yesterday in Tanghdar sector in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Sources said that Army deployed along the fence at Kungi Nad forest area in Jumgund, Keran sector noticed the movement of infiltrators early in the morning and launched an operation against them.
The Army challenged the militant group and the militants opened fire leading to a gun battle. Additional troops of 15 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Gorkha Regiment (GR) were rushed to the area to assist the troops deployed near the fence in carrying out the operation.
Sources said that two militants were shot dead in the gun battle on the other side of the fence while rest of the members of the group managed to escape towards the Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). Later searches of the area were conducted and bodies of two militants and two AK-47 rifles were recovered from them. Besides this war like stores were also recovered from them.
And in the meantime, the operation in Tanghdar sector of the LoC is going on. So far a Territorial Army soldier, Bashir Ahmad War, was killed and three special forces commandos of 4-Para unit were injured yesterday.
Army’s 20 RR deployed at Bateeja and Taya top intercepted a group of militants yesterday afternoon. The militants opened fire which was retaliated by troops, leading to a fierce encounter.
The group of militants believed to be 5 to 6 militants and had sneaked during the intervening night of August 6 and 7.
Army’s 4 Para were airlifted in choppers from Kupwara to take on the militant group.
A TA soldier identified as Bashir Ahmad War who was handling a tracker dog during the operation in the area was fired at leading his and canine’s death.
The militants fired at the Para troops, resulting in injuries to three of them and they were immediately airlifted to Army’s 92 base hospital in Srinagar for treatment.
More troops were rushed to the area this morning and entire forest area was cordoned off to trace the militant group that is believed to be hiding in the forests.
The TA soldier  Bashir Ahmad War was today buried in a local graveyard and large number of local people and Army men and officers attended his last rites.
A fierce gun battle raged when police and Army launched a joint operation at Mahind village in Srigufwara area of Anantnag district tonight.
Reports said that 3 RR and police cordoned off the village and militants present inside hurled a grenade at troops and fired from automatic weapons. The troops also fired leading to a gun battle.
The cordon around the village was tightened to prevent militants from fleeing. Sources said that three militants are believed to be trapped.
