Dorjey, Spalbar visit flood-affected Nubra Valley

JAMMU, Aug 10: Minister for Cooperatives, Chhering Dorjey today visited the flood affected villages in the Nubra valley and listened to the grievances and problems being faced by the villagers.
The Minister gave assurance to take up the widening of the Khaltsar Bridge with BRO and directed I&FC Department to prepare a detailed project report for Khaltsar irrigation canal.
At Panamik, the Primary Health Centre is filled with water and mudslide which has also damaged the hospital solar power plant. To this, the Minister directed the concerned department to restore drinking water facility in the hospital and clearing of the mudslides at the earliest and also instructed LREDA to repair the solar power plants.
He also directed PWD to restore the damaged link roads in the valley and instructed the SDM to arrange JCBs and provide it as per need on priority basis.
The Minister was accompanied by Councilor Sumoor and Kyagar, BDO Panamik, BMO Diskit, Tehsilder and other block level officers.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Councilor (CEC), LAHDC, Leh Rigzin Spalbar also visited Nubra Valley today to assess the flood damages caused by the rainfall and cloud burst. He was accompanied by MLA Nubra Deldan Namgail, respective area Councilors, incharge SDM Nubra and a team of engineers and officers.
After assessing the heavy damages in the area mainly to roads, houses and standing crops, CEC instructed DC Leh to send atleast 10 JCBs to Nubra Valley to carry restoration and protection works at various affected places. He ensured the people to start with the restoration works at the earliest on priority and need basis.
He appealed the public to work in full cooperation with the decentralized committee headed by EC Health, Dr Sonam Angchuk.
CEC instructed Rural Development and Irrigation and Flood Control Department to restore the damaged head works of irrigation canals in all the affected villages to avoid the remaining standing crops from drought.
He directed the SDM to make an assessment report on damaged houses and standing crops and submit at the earliest to the District Administration and Hill Council.
