JAMMU, Aug 10: While taking stock of the damages being caused by the recent rains, Speaker State Assembly and MLA, Gandhi Nagar, Kavinder Gupta today visited Sector-8 and Sector-9 of Nanak Nagar along with the officers of Revenue, JMC and Flood Control Department.
He was accompanied by Commissioner JMC, Sojanya Sharma; Tehsildar, Jammu South; X-En, UEED; X-En, I&FC; Pappu Chowdhary, Ravi Manhas, Kuldeep Singh, Arvind Sadotra, Pardeep Verma and other prominent citizens of the area.
Gupta took stock of the restoration works undertaken by the JMC and I&FC Department and interacted with locals at these places. He visited the site of the Nallah from where the water overflowed.
Commissioner, JMC informed Mr Gupta that the slab of the Nallah has been dismantled due to which the flood water overflowed and caused damage to the property of the people, and moreover the de-silting works are also going on which will provide more space for water to flow.
Taking a dig at the previous Government, the Speaker said that it is only due to the non seriousness of the previous MLA who covered these Nallahs with concrete slab, the residents of these areas had to suffer heavy losses in this rainy season.
He also interacted with the families of flood victims and asked revenue officers to assess the damages suffered by the people and furnish the details in the shortest possible time so that the process of compensating these people can be initiated at the earliest.
He assured the people of the area that the present dispensation is always on the disposal of the public to address their grievances.
