SRINAGAR, Aug 12: Annual Conference of Chief Electoral Officers of all the states and Union Territories was held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi from August 10 to 11.
The conference was presided over by the Chief Election Commissioner of India, Dr Nasim Zaidi and A K Joti, Election Commissioner and attended by three Deputy Election Commissioners, Director General of Election Commission of India besides Chief Electoral Officers of all the 29 States and 6 Union Territories.
Chief Electoral Officer, J&K, Shantmanu, Deputy Chief Electoral officer and Rishpal Singh represented Jammu and Kashmir at the Conference.
In the conference, wide range of election related issues were discussed. Among the prominent issues discussed and reviewed in the conference were, progress made in National Electoral Roll Purification and Authentication Programme (NERPAP), Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls with qualifying date as on 1st January 2016, rationalization of Polling Stations, creating voter friendly environment at polling stations, expenditure incurred on Lok Sabha and Assembly Elections 2014, expenditure incurred by the contesting candidates in elections, public grievances redressal in a time bound manner, strengthening of the offices of Chief Electoral officer (CEO), District Election officer (DEOs) and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) by providing adequate infrastructure, manpower and IT resources, Construction of EVM Godowns at all district headquarters etc. The Commission also discussed the draft vision documents on e-Governance besides various initiatives and innovations taken at ECI and field level.
