IAF rescues 2 women trapped in flash-flood

KATHUA, Aug 12: The Indian Air Force men today rescued two women trapped in a flash flood in river Pinni in Billawar area of district Kathua today.
While one of them was B.Ed student the other was a house wife accompanying her to Billawar town from village Saifan near Mata Bala Sundri shrine. It was around 8 am when both, Ritu Devi ( B.Ed student) and Sito Devi were crossing the river. When they reached in the middle the water level started rising and they got trapped. They could not cross the next part of the river at the other end. As the water level went on increasing they started crying for help. Some people noticed them in danger and they informed Billawar Police Station and SDM Billawar.
Both the women escaped to the dry portion of the river in the middle but the water level was rising posing risk to their lives. The SDM contacted DC Kathua who requested Divisional Commission Jammu Dr Pawan Kotwal. Dr Kotwal then spoke to senior IAF officer in Jammu and a helicopter from Udhampur IAF Station rushed to Billawar. Wing Commander V Takawale and Light Lieutenant Parvin managed to rescue both the women at around 1 pm.
