JAMMU, Aug 13: To review the status of Prime Minister Special Scholarship for the Jammu and Kashmir students, Minister of State for Education, Information and Culture, Priya Sethi today chaired a high level review meeting at GGM Science College.
The PM Special Scholarship Scheme (SSS) has been announced for the students of the state who wish to pursue under graduate level programs in General and Engineering stream in the Institutes approved by the UGC.
Principal, GGM Science College who is Nodal Principal for the SSS Dr. Ajeet Angral and other staff members of different colleges involved in the counselling for the SSS of the Jammu division participated in the meeting.
Threadbare discussions were held on the process of counselling and the problems faced by the designated staff as well as the students.
Underscoring on the need to simplify procedures of the SSS, the Minister said that aim of the scheme is to facilitate students of the state for higher education and all out efforts should be made to ensure that required necessary help is provided to the student fraternity. She said various facilitation centres have been established by the Government for benefit of the students.
“5000 students would be given these special scholarships and we will ensure that eligible students are facilitated at all levels so that our students are encouraged to pursue higher studies,” she added.
She said that the Government had got negative feedback about the NGOs and now the Higher Education Department has been directly involved for ensuring fool proof system of scholarship distribution.
Calling for making the system more students friendly, Priya said that the issues presented by those involved in the SSS would be taken by with the Union Human Resource Ministry and all required arrangements would be made for ensuring a hassle free system.
“I will personally follow the matter with Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani and needfull would be done for welfare of the students of the state,” she added.
