Tangdhar road accident

People of State have expresses its deep sorrow on the loss of 11 precious human lives in a tragic accident that happened in Sadna Pass, in Tangdhar of Kupwara district. The driver of the Sumo and ten passengers were killed when the driver lost control of the vehicle which fell in 400 feet deep gorge. The police have dispatched rescue teams and the army has also rendered help in retrieving the dead bodies. Motor accidents over the hilly roads of the State are taking big toll of precious lives season after season and year after year. Despite the fact that these road accidents have become a recurring phenomenon in the State, the Traffic Department has not been able to find an efficient solution to the problem. So many conferences and meetings are held on how to avert accidents but nothing works satisfactorily. Obviously, the traffic police will conduct an inquiry into the causes of the accident. But our experience is that seldom the Traffic Department comes out with the details of the inquiry conducted in such accidents. The fate of Tangdhar accident may not be different.
However, what we will emphasize upon the Government is that the families of the killed persons should be provided with support so that the dependents are able to make both ends meet. If possible, their dependent wards should be provided with employment and regular sustenance. Apart from that the traffic police in charge of the sector where the accident has happened shall have to be made accountable for negligence of duty if the inquiry finds it out.
We convey condolence to the bereaved families and pray God Almighty grant peace to departed souls.
