SRINAGAR, Aug 14: The State is soon going to have a Tribal Research Institute dedicated to studies concerning the tribal population of the State.
This was stated by Minister for CA&PD and Tribal Affairs Ch Zulfkar Ali here today. He said the institute would be established to identify core areas to formulate welfare policies and programmes as per the developmental needs of the tribal community.
Discussing the modalities for establishing the tribal research institute, Zulfkar said the developmental requirements of tribals vary from area to area and keeping in view the ground realities, it is imperative that several institutions of Centre and State Government work in tandem to achieve this goal.
Elaborating the salient features of the institute, the Minster said the institute will undertake intensive studies on tribals’ needs, culture, customs and arts in a holistic manner adding that thrust would be laid to improve education and health sector besides identification of growth centres in tribal areas which would help them come out of chronic backwardness and deprivation and ensure their comprehensive emancipation.
Zulfkar said the creation of such an institute would synergise the efforts and activities of various departments and organisations on the subject of Tribal Affairs. He said the studies conducted by the institute would go a long way in guiding the policy makers on the subject.
Secretary, CA&PD, Secretary, Tribal Affairs, Director Tribal Affairs beside other officers of the department attended the meeting.
Earlier, the Minister had a meeting with Secretary Ladakh Affairs Department and officers of CA&PD to review the stock and supply position of essentials at Leh and Kargil.
The meeting had an extensive discussion on several issues including opening of petrol pumps at Nubra, rationalization and enhancement of K-oil quota, renovation of office building at Kargil etc.
The Minister directed that all supplies should be sent to Ladakh region well in advance before the onset of winter so that people there don’t face any difficulty.
