Chhari-Sthapana performed amid chanting of vedic hymns

SRINAGAR :  Amid chanting of vedic hymn Chhari-Sthapana was performed at Shri Amareshwar Temple Akhara building near here today as per age old traditions, connected with annual Amarnath pilgrimage.
Chhari-Mubarak, holy silver Mace, one depicting Lord Shiva and another Goddess Parvati shall be kept in the Temple for darshan till the commencement of main course of pilgrimage on August 25 for final darshan at cave shrine on August 29.
Pilgrims and public in general have the privilege to have Darshan of the Holy Mace, Mahant Deependra Giri, custodian of the Mace said.
However, he said, the traditional Chhari-Pujan shall be performed on August 19 on the occasion of  Nag-Panchami (Shravan Shukla Paksha Panchami) at Dashnami Akhara, before commencement of the main pilgrimage from here on August 25.
Led by Mahant Giri, large number of devotees, including a group of sadhus participated in the pujan during the Chhari Sthapana at the temple today.
So far,  Bhoomi-Pujan and Dhwajarohan were performed at Palamgam on Vyas-Purnima on July 31 before the Chhari Mubarak returned to Dashnami Akhara.
On August 14, the Chhari was taken to Shanarcharya temple on the occasion of Amavasya and next day to Sharika Bhawani temple on the occasion of Pratipada. (UNI)
