All landslide hit families shifted to safer places

JAMMU, Aug 21: The authorities have shifted all the 39 families to safer places whose houses were buried in landslide late last night in village Morha Chuhara falling in the Panchayat Uchha Pind of tehsil Ramkote in Billawar Sub Division of Kathua district.
All the affected people were shifted to Government Middle School Pongal and they will be provided relief as per norms, Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Ajay Jamwal told Excelsior.
He said all the families and the cattle are safe. However seven Kachha houses as per available reports have been damaged totally. He said the Government is working out the details of compensation for the damages as per norms. But all steps have been taken to provide immediate relief like tents, rations, medicines etc to them. The relief kits including tents and utensils will be provided by this evening to all the affected families, he added.
Meanwhile Union Minister in PMO with independent charge of North Eastern States Dr Jitendra Singh soon after coming to know of the tragedy announced release of Rs five lakh from MP LAD fund as an immediate relief for the rehabilitation of affected families.
Dr Singh also issued instructions to District Development Commissioner Kathua and other authorities to provide relief to all the affected families on war footing basis.
Dr Singh assured the people that all steps will be taken for their rehabilitation at safer places and every sort of help will also be given by the government to them under norms.
The Chowki Officer Ramkote Virender Singh who first reached the landslide hit area along with a police team early this morning said that seven houses have been fully damaged. He said all the affected people of 39 families were taken to safer places.
