JAMMU, Aug 23: A goods train derailed near Kathua railway station early this morning leading to suspension of train traffic for some time and delay in departure and arrival of several trains during the day. Traffic on Jammu-Pathankot railway line was restored by repairing single track while double track was expected to be restored by midnight tonight.
Official sources said three coaches of goods train loaded with cement, which was on way from New Delhi to Jammu, derailed at Kharot, about one and half kilometers from Kathua railway station at 6.15 am today disrupting train traffic on Jammu-Pathankot section. Senior officials of Railways and Railways Police rushed to the spot from Jammu, Kathua and Pathankot along with track repair and bogey lifting machines.
There were no casualties in the train derailment, sources said, adding any sabotage behind the derailment has been ruled out. The goods train derailed due to mechanical snag. The train was loaded with cement.
Incoming and outgoing trains to and fro Jammu were immediately suspended on Jammu-Pathankot section after derailment of the train.
At about 10.30 am, the Railways succeeded in repairing single line track at the site leading to resumption of train traffic, albeit with delay of some hours.
“While some of the trains reached on time, others were delayed,” sources said.
All three derailed coaches of the goods train were lifted back on the track late tonight. Sources said both lines of the track were likely to be restored by midnight tonight. However, the trains to Jammu left for their destinations with delay of few hours though some of them were on time.
