DyCM visits landslide hit areas in Kathua

KATHUA, Aug 23: Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh today visited landslide hit village Mohra Chhuara of Panchayat Uchha Pind in tehsil Ramkote today.
Dr Nirmal Singh accompanied by MLA Ramnagar R.S Pathania,  DC Kathua Ajay Singh Jamwal and SDM Billawar R.S Charak visited the lanslide hit  area  where nearly 1000 kanals of agriculture land and over 40 residential houses were buried two days back.
Thereafter Deputy Chief Minister visited the relief camp site established by the administration in the premises of Government Primary School Pongaran. He met with affected families and assured them that Government will extend all possible help to the victim families.
Expressing deep concern on the repeated happening of sudden landslide incidents in the area, Dr Nirmal Singh said that an expert team of Geological Survey of India (GSI) will be consulted to ascertain the reason of such sudden calamity. He said findings of expert team will help in deciding the next course of action for any decision with regard to mass rehabilitation of the families of the area if required.
He informed that the matter has already been taken up with the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and added that appropriate compensation will be given to all fifty one affected families.
Dr Nirmal Singh appreciated District and Tehsil administration for taking swift and timely action resulting in no loss of life and livestock during the rescue operation. He further emphasized the need to formulate a comprehensive disaster management plan for the area and effective steps for disaster mitigation and calibrated response.
DyCM directed administration to conduct medical checkup of all inmates of the relief camp and further directed to ensure regular water, electricity, ration and kerosene to the affected families.
He also directed the tehsil administration to assess the damage and complete the verification work at the earliest.
On the occasion, Dr Nirmal Singh gave away utensils kits and tents among the affected families.
Tehsildar, BDO and officers of PWD, PHE, PDD, Education Department were also present on the occasion.
