PATNA, Aug 24:
Accusing the previous Congress Governments of releasing majority of stamps on members of “Nehru-Gandhi” family, Communications and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today said the postal department would release stamps to honour 25 distinguished personalities, including Jai Prakash Narayan, Ram Manohar Lohia and Dashrath Manjhi.
The announcement was made by Mr Prasad while inaugurating a commemorative stamp on Ashoka the Great, a king belonging to the Maurya dynasty at Vidyapati Bhawan.”I was surprised to find that the Postal Department under the previous Congress Governments mainly concentrated on releasing commemorative stamps on members of the Nehru-Gandhi family, ignoring several others,” he remarked in a veiled attack on the Congress.
The Union Minister said the Postal Department would release commemorative stamps for the second time on other great personalities belonging to Bihar-the great freedom fighter Babu Kuer Singh, noted poet of Mithilanchal Vidyapati and former Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur.
Mr Prasad said the Postal Department would continue to release commemorative stamps on other personalities who had achieved remarkable success in various fields. He said the department would release commemorative stamps on former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, BJP leader Kailashpati Mishra and former Bihar Assembly Speaker Sachchidanand Sinha.
