Two brothers arrested for spreading panic in Jammu

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Aug 25: Police today arrested two brothers including an Inspector working with the Power Development Department (PDD) for spreading rumours about movement of militants in Janipura, leading to panic in the entire City and outskirts and closures of educational institutions. Police and para-military forces conducted searches for over three hours in Janipura only to realize that a jilted PDD Inspector had made the hoax call to get a civilian trapped.
SP City (North) Shiv Kumar Chouhan, who supervised the search operations, told the Excelsior that a PDD Inspector Upinder Krishan used his mobile telephone No. 8717018799 to call Police Control Room (PCR) at 100 on 9.30 am today impersonating himself as Bashir Ahmad and told the PCR that the militants had taken shelter in the house of Waryam Singh, a retired police Inspector  and surroundings at Shant Nagar.
Police parties with bullet-proof bunkers and para-military CRPF immediately swung into action and cordoned off the area. They launched house to house search operation. In the meantime, all educational institutions in the area closed down their schools and asked people to take their kin back home.
Panic spread in entire Jammu as a word spread that the militants had struck at Janipura. Even some educational institutions in the City closed down their schools. Vehicular movement was also restricted on Janipura road. During house to house searches, police didn’t find any traces of militants.
Subsequently, police traced the mobile calls and found the number switched off. The number was traced to PDD Inspector Upinder Krishan but he had fled away from the office.
Police teams arrested Upinder Krishan this evening and seized his mobile. He revealed that his brother, Rakesh Krishan had made the call. Police have also arrested Rakesh and booked both of them under Sections 419 and 505 RPC at Janipura police station for further investigations.
SHO Janipura Inspector Ajit Singh was investigating the case.
Police investigations revealed that Upinder Krishan was staying in the house of one Waryam Singh at Shant Nagar sometime back but due to his misconduct, Waryam had ousted Upinder. To take revenge, Upinder rang up the PCR and told them that the militants were hiding in the house of Waryam Singh.
