Gas tanker turns turtle, major tragedy averted

KATHUA, Aug 25: A major tragedy was averted after a tanker filled with LPG gas rolled down at Jammu-Pathankot National Highway near Shaktay Chak falling under the jurisdiction of Nagri Parole Police Post this afternoon.
The panic gripped the area after the tank filled with gas got a scratch and gas started leaking from it. The people informed the Police Post Nagri Parole and it soon swung into action diverting the movement of traffic on NH from other side to avert any tragedy.
Besides, all the dhabas in the vicinity were also closed and power was turned off in the area. The people of adjoining villages were also advised not to move from that area.
The police said high alert was sounded in the area and fire brigade was also put into service to avert any tragedy.
A team of Bharat Gas from Jammu also rushed to the spot to take the control of the tanker. Besides a recovery van of Bharat gas from Bhatinda Punjab has also been called and it was on its way to Kathua.
The entire area has been cordoned and conditions have been created to maintain a low temperature near the gas tanker. The tanker will be restored after the recovery van and experts from Bhatinda reach the spot during the night. The tanker was on its way from Bhatinda to Jammu.
