JAMMU, Aug 26: A 19-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in her rental room at Sarwal Colony in city outskirts while another girl in Gandhi Nagar area made an abortive attempt on her life.
According to a police spokesman, the girl identified as Tahira Bano daughter of Ghulam Mohd, a resident of Nubra in Leh was found hanging with the hook of a ceiling fan at her temporary residence in Sarwal Colony, this evening when her brother returned home after attending coaching classes.
He immediately informed the police who reached the spot and shifted the body of the deceased to mortuary room of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu, for conducting postmortem tomorrow.
No suicide note was recovered from the spot, police said adding a case has been registered in this connection and investigations started.
A 19-year-old girl identified as Sonia (19) daughter of Kala, a resident of Valmiki Chowk (Gandhi Nagar, Jammu) today consumed some poisonous substance (phenyl) at her residence. The family members immediately shifted her to GMCH, where her condition is stated to be stable till the last reports came in.
The concerned police has taken cognizance of the matter.
