Yatra going on smoothly, crosses 3.52 lakh mark

SRINAGAR: Fresh bathes of pilgrims left Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps early this morning for the holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, where  more than 3.52 lakh  pilgrims have paid obeisance till early this morning.
Meanwhile, Chhari-Mubarak, holy silver Mace of Lord Shiva left Chanandawari early this morning for Sheshnag on way to holy cave where final puja will be held on  Augut 29.
A Yatra Control Room (YCR) official told UNI that yatra was going on smoothly, though the number of pilgrims undertaking the pilgrimage has come down as the yatra entered the last phase.
Yesterday 232 pilgrims, including women and sadhus, had obeisance at the cave shrine. With this, a total of  3,52018  pilgrims have paid obeisance till this morning.
Majority of the pilgrims had returned to their homes after the darshan of the Ice-Shivlingam.
The YCR official said about 191 pilgrims, including women and sadhus, left Nunwan Pahalgam base camp early this morning for Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station on the traditional 45-km-long track.
Pilgrims, who were halted at Chandanwari and other halting stations, also moved forward towards the cave shrine early this morning.
He said more than 67 pilgrims also left Baltal base camp for the holy cave shrine early this morning. The pilgrims, including women, sadhus will reach the cave shrine this afternoon to pay obeisance.
The number of pilgrims could increase as Yatra gates will remain open till 1200 hrs.
Pilgrims, who had night halt near cave shrine after paying obeisance yesterday, also started their return journey to base camp this morning.   (AGENCIES)
