ICCR organizes ‘Young Tarang’ at GCW Parade

Jammu, Aug 28: Indian Council for Cultural Relations, (ICCR) Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India organised ‘Young Tarang-III’ at Government College for Women, Parade, Jammu under its Horizon Series programme.
Featuring diverse performances by young performers ranging from music, dance and drama the programme enthralled the jam-packed audience .
Regional Director of ICCR Jammu, Balwant Thakur presented a bird eye view of this massive initiative of ICCR which is initiated with the active support of Department of Higher Education J&K Government.
After the initial cultural orientation programmes which will be held in all the city based colleges in addition to the colleges of the periphery of Jammu, multiple workshops will be held to train the select students in music, dance, drama, visual arts, and literature activities. This training series will conclude with a mega Jammu Youth Cultural Festival where performances, exhibitions, literary sessions will be held.
The program started with the mixed dance number ‘Radha Teri Chunari…’ which gave a befitting opening to the programme. This was followed by solo singing items presented by Mehak Choudhary, Shivani Koul, Navneet Kour and Kanika Rajput and all got standing ovation for their soulful singing. Puja Raj’s solo dance number was taken over by vibrant dance number presented by Arpita and her group. The solo songs continued to dominate the stage with the singing of Shweta Saproo, Parul Sharma, Indu Koul and Vandana. Two short plays ‘Saas Bahu Nonk Jhonk’ and ‘School Inspection’ had lot to convey through their socially relevant themes. While ‘Saas Bahu Nonk Jhonk’ beautifully caricatured the exploitation of women through women, the ‘School Inspection’ exposed the decay of educational system.  The artists who participated in these plays included Kiran Palotra, Sanaskriti Sharma, Supriya Singh, Priya Koul, Vandana Subh, Neha Langeh, Meenakshi Bhagat, Mutqeen Khan, Rashmi Jasrotia, Priya Gupta, Niharika Gandotra, Tanya Gupta, Lotika Dogra, Pravjot Kour, Tavleen Kour and Sobia.
The programme culminated on a high note with a thrilling Bhangra performance.
