Leh, Aug 28: A special Health Campaign for the thorough medical check-up 120 sanitation workers of Leh was launched today by District Magistrate, Saugat Biswas, in presence of Medical Superintendent SNM Hospital Leh Dr Yangchan Dolma and Administrator NAC Leh Dr Zahida Bano.
Biswas talking to the gathering of doctors, and medical staff said that the sanitation workers of Leh exhibit sincerity towards their work which is evident from the cleaner city of Leh in comparison to other cities. They work efficiently trying to keep the city clean and also by coming in direct contact of the garbage of all sorts making themselves vulnerable to various germs and other health hazards. They put their health in danger to ensure a clean city.
In addition to that the financial and social backwardness also make them easy target to various diseases and health abuse.  “It is our responsibility to look after their health as a gesture of appreciation for risking their valuable lives,” he added.
The sanitation workers will be checked for aberrations in the field of ENT, Ophthalmology, Physician & Gynaecology and all investigations will  be conducted free of cost.
The District Magistrate gave directions to the Medical Superintendent to conduct frequent health awareness campaigns at schools and aware them about the importance of health & hygiene and also about the ill effects of alcohol, smoking and other health hazard.
Meanwhile, District Magistrate, Leh, Saugat Biswas convened a meeting of Rogi Kalyan Samiti (RKS) in his office to discuss various agendas for RKS. The meeting was attended by Councilor Upper Leh, ADC, CMO Leh, Medical Superintendent-SNM Hospital, Assistant Matron, Ex-en PHE, Ex-en Construction, Ex-en Mechanical Division, PDD official, CPO and AO, DC office, Leh. It is pertinent to mention that for the first time representative of public and nursing fraternity participated in the RKS meeting.
In the meeting it was decided to increase the indoor ticket for admitted patients in SNM hospital from Rs.20 to Rs. 25 considering the good quality of the paper. Biswas instructed MS to get the tickets printed from government press, Srinagar and finish the procurement process before the closure of the national highway. The meeting also expressed consensus on charging the indoor patient with minimum charge for investigation on the line of other medical institutions in other districts of the State like Baramulla and Anantnag.
