SRINAGAR, Aug 28: In wake of fresh ceasefire violations and killings, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today appealed India and Pakistan to put an end to death and destruction.
The remarks of Omar came after 10 civilians on both sides of International Border (IB) were killed in firing and shelling along IB in RS Pura Jammu and in Sialkot Pakistan.
“What a terrible start to the day. I hope cooler heads and better sense prevail. Thoughts and prayers with all affected,” Omar wrote on micro-blogging website Twitter.
Hours later, when the death toll mounted to 9, he wrote in another tweet: “…can the 56 inch chests on both sides please put an end to this death and destruction ASAP (as soon as possible).”
Meanwhile, the chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has expressed concern over the civilian casualties on the both sides of the border and has appealed Governments of India and Pakistan to initiate talks to resolve their issues including the long pending Kashmir dispute.
The separatist leader said that there is no option available with two nuclear powers except dialogue and urged both countries to exercise restraint.
