JAMMU, Aug 31:  Mohammad Iqbal Khandey today relinquished the office of the Chief Secretary after having opted for Voluntary Retirement from the Services (VRS) due to differences with the Government.
Official sources said Khandey left the office of the Chief Secretary at 4.45 pm in the Civil Secretariat and was given warm farewell by the staff including officials and officers of the Secretariat. Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, BB Vyas was also present to see off the Chief Secretary.
Meanwhile, Government has not given charge to any bureaucrat so far of the post of the Chief Secretary.
“No bureaucrat has so far been asked to look after the charge of the Chief Secretary. A decision was likely to be taken tomorrow after the return of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed from New Delhi,” sources said.
While applying for the VRS, Khandey had made it clear that August 31 will be his last day in the office and that he will not revert his decision even if asked for.
