SAMBA, Sept 2: The students of Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GGHSS) boycotted their classes here today over shortage of teaching faculty in the institution.
Large number of students assembled at Jammu-Pathankote National Highway and blocked the vehicular movement.
The protestors raised slogans against the Education Department for its failure to fulfill the vacant posts of lecturers in the institution.
One of the protesting students while talking to the Excelsior told that “We are facing manifold problems due to non-availability of lecturers of some subjects”.
She added that matter was brought into the notice of the concerned authorities including CEO Samba Mangal Dev several times, but no one paid heed towards the problems being faced by the students due to shortage of lecturers.
“We are not in the favour of protests, but as far as our future is concerned, we have to come on roads”, she asserted.
After getting information, police team also reached the spot and tried to pacify the students, but failed as the students continued their protest on the highway for several hours, leading to long traffic snarls.
Later, DDC Samba Sheetal Nanda reached the spot and assured the students that from tomorrow temporary teachers will teach them for the concerned subjects and within week, permanent lecturers will be adjusted.
On the assurance of the DDC, the students dispersed and the vehicular movement was restored on the National Highway.
