Srinagar, Sept 7: The hunger strike of employees of National Youth Corps (NYC) entered 6th day here in city centre.
Hundreds of NYC employees are camping at Pratap Park of Lal Chowk here since last 6 days and today was the 7th day of their hunger strike protest. The NYC employees are demanding implementation of a Cabinet order vis-à-vis their induction into various departments.
The Srinagar district president of NYC, Reyaz Ahmad Bhat, said that they are not back door appointees. He said that they were recruited under the transparent policy and selection procedure by the concerned District development Commissioners to serve in the 14 Government Departments.
“Now we once again request state government that we want to build our nation and we want to remain peaceful. Don’t compel us towards any harsh step especially to PDP president Mehbooba Mufti to come forward with a concrete policy as you have promised the NYCs when you were in Opposition,” he said.
Meanwhile, various political and employees’ leaders and social activists continued to throng the hunger strike protest venue and expressed solidarity with NYC.
