JAMMU, Sept 12: National Lok Adalats for criminal compoundable cases were held today across the J&K State.
A total of 2512 cases were disposed off in the NLAs and an amount of Rs 73,02,10 was settled which includes maintenance awarded and compound money realized.
According to a statement issued by, RN Wattal, Member Secretary J&K State Legal Services authority, Lok Adalats were convened at High Court and at the District and Tehsil levels under the patronage of Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar, Chief Justice, J&K High Court and Patron-in-Chief J&K State Legal Services Authority, and under the guidance of Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, Judge, J&K High Court and Executive Chairman, J&K State Legal Services Authority.
Meanwhile, 773 cases were taken up out of which 529 cases were settled amicably and an amount of Rs 209600 was realized as fine in the NLA convened at District Legal Services Authority Srinagar under the chairmanship of Rasheed Ali Dar, Principal District and Sessions Judge Srinagar at District Court Complex Sanat Ghar Bemina Srinagar.
A National Lok Adalat was held under the chairmanship of District and Sessions Judge Bandipora Mohammad Ashraf Malik at Mediation Centre Bandipora. As many as 85 criminal compoundable cases (pending and pre-litigation matters) were taken up, out of which 29 cases were settled on the spot. A compound amount of Rs 2750 was realized and remitted into Government treasury.
DLSA Kupwara also held Lok Adalats in different parts of the district. A total of 416 cases were settled and amount of Rs 108250 was also realized.
At Anantnag, National Lok Adalat was held at District and Subordinate Courts under the supervision of Jawaid Ahmad, Principal District and Session Judge (Chairman District Legal Services Authority) Anantnag. In the said National Lok Adalat pending 265 cases were taken up out of which 162 cases were amicably settled and settlement amount of Rs 18100 realized.
A National Lok Adalat was organized in District Court Complex Jammu under the chairmanship of SK Gupta, Chairman, DLSA. A total of 381 cases were taken up out of which 59 cases were settled.
At Udhampur, a National Lok Adalat was held in the District Court Complex, Udhampur, tehsil Ramnagar and tehsil Chenani. A total of 148 cases were taken up, out of which 92 cases were settled and a fine of Rs 51050 was imposed in different criminal compoundable matters.
At Nowshera, a National Lok Adalat was held in the court complex under the chairmanship of Sandeep Kour, Chairman, TLSA, Nowshera. Out of 36 cases, 28 cases were disposed off.
At Reasi, a National Lok Adalat was held in the Court Complex, under the chairmanship of KS Parihar, Chairman, DLSA. A total of 225 cases were taken up out of which 141 cases were settled and an amount of Rs 4,200 was recovered as compoundable fine.
