Shutdown, clashes in Pulwama; 7 hurt

Srinagar, Sept 13: Atleast 7 persons including three police men were injured as clashes broke out in Pulwama district during the funeral of a top Lashkar-e-Toiba commander who was killed in an encounter with security forces yesterday.
The stone throwing youth clashed with police in parts of Pulwama district including Padgampora. Police fired dozens of teargas shells and used pellet guns against the protesters.
At least 7 persons including three policemen were injured in the clashes. Two protesters were hit by pellets and one of them was referred to Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura for specialized treatment.
Barring Pampore town, the shutdown was observed in all the parts of the district against the killing of militant.
Earlier in the morning, thousands of people participated in the funeral of LeT commander Irshad Ahmad Ganai. The chairman of hardline Hurriyat faction Syed Ali Shah Geelani addressed the participants of the funeral over telephone.
Police said that barring stone-pelting incidents, there was no major incident of violence in the district and overall situation was under control. The police further said that suitable security arrangements were in place across the district.
Meanwhile, stone-throwing clashes also raged at Rajouri Kadal and Kawdara localities of downtown in city here. No one was reported to be injured in the clashes which continued for several hours.
