KOLKATA: Electronics major Sony India today said it will increase its focus on the ‘Make in India’ drive with more domestically made products, beginning with flat TV panels.
“We began with two SKUs recently in the panel segment and in the second phase we will add another 4-5 SKUs by this year. All will be in panels,” said Satish Padmanabhan, Sales Head, Sony India.
The company has 23 SKUs in panels or television models.
Sony India has undergone outsourcing tie-up with a Chennai based firm for making televisions. The firm is only into LED panel based TVs.
Asked about plans to make Xperia phones in India, he said nothing has been firmed up yet for this vertical.
Speaking about growth for the current fiscal, he said the company aims a robust growth of 15-20 per cent for FY16 despite weak rural economy projection due to deficit rainfall.
In the festive season between Durga Puja and Diwali, Sony India projects to do a business of Rs 5,000 crore, or 20 per cent jump over last year, Padmanabhan said.
Last fiscal, Sony India had a turnover of Rs 10,400 crore.
In West Bengal alone, the company aims to do a business of Rs 280 crore, a sharp gain over last year’s sales of Rs 200 crore from the state. (PTI)
