SRINAGAR, Sept 15: Separatists today called for shutdown in Kashmir valley tomorrow against the mysterious killings of three militants of Lashkar-e-Islam (LeI) whose dead bodies were recovered yesterday morning.
Calling for shutdown, the chairman of hardline Hurriyat faction, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, termed the killings as gruesome and rejected version that they were killed in infighting.
Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik also called for a shutdown against the killings and said there is no acceptability for these kinds of murders in a civilized society.
Malik was detained by police at Sangrama in north Kashmir today morning as he was supposed to go to Sopore to meet the families of militants. “These kinds of mysterious killings cannot be tolerated by any civilized society”, the JKLF leader said.
Meanwhile, Kashmir University (KU) has postponed all the exams scheduled for tomorrow. Fresh dates for the deferred examinations shall be notified separately.
Earlier, day after bullet-riddled bodies of three militants were found, a complete shutdown was observed in parts of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district today.
The three militants, affiliated with Lashkar-e-Islam (LeI) outfit, were found dead in an orchard of Pattan area yesterday by locals.
Shops, commercial establishments, banks and educational institutes remained closed in Pattan, Palhallan, Sopore, Narbal, Kreeri, Kunzar and Sangrama while a partial shutdown was observed in Baramulla town. The shutdown also affected public and private transport.
Clashes between security personnel and protesters broke out in Pattan, Narbal, Sopore and Palhallan. The protesters pelted stones on security forces while police resorted to teargas shelling. The clashes left two persons injured in Sopore.
