JAMMU, Sept 16: Power employees held protest demonstration outside the office of Executive Engineer M&RE Division-III at Rehari here today.
The employees of Power Development Department (PDD), led by Shakti Gupta under the banner of Provincial Power Employees Union assembled at the Division office Rehari at around 11 am and started protest demonstration. They were raising slogans in support of their demands. They were opposing allotment of some works in Roopnagar area to the Self Help Group. They said that daily rated workers are not getting their wages and the SHGs are being paid under which head?
The agitating workers were also opposing the decision of the authorities to allot work of revenue realization, taking reading from meters of the consumers and distribution of monthly bills to the SHGs/ private firms. They were demanding release of two and half days salary in favour of all the non-gazetted field staff, regularisation of daily wagers/ need base and casual workers, conduct of DPC of all cadre and framing of norms for transparent and clear transfer policy. They were also seeking free power supply or concession in electricity bills for the PDD employees.
Some trade union leaders Ajaz Kazmi, Sanjeev Bali, Madan Gopal and Ram Lal also spoke on the occasion and condemned the State Power authorities for their decision to go for privatization of the Power sector. They said that employees of the PDD are worried about their future and Government should come out with clear cut policy.
